Description
In recognition of Nurses Week 2003, NLN's Nurse Educator Workforce Development Advisory Council (NEWDAC) presented an audio conference in cooperation with Joint Commission Resources, a division of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. The topic for the program was "Who Will Teach Our Future Nurses? Innovative Programs to Address the Nurse Faculty Shortage." Participants offered information about innovative collaborative projects between schools of nursing and health care institutions designed to help alleviate the faculty shortage. The hour-long presentation was followed by 30 minutes of questions and answers from the participating public. The identification of creative collaborative programs between education and practice came about from the efforts of the NEWDAC Executive Committee. NEWDAC is one of four advisory councils working to accomplish the goals set forth by the NLN Board of Governors. Specifically, NEWDAC provides leadership to advance the lifelong learning goals of nurses whose primary role is education in academic, practice, or other service settings. NEWDAC has eight specific goals as outlined in Sidebar 1.
